Wooden Cigar Boxes
Cigars that are too moist will generally not burn properly. Cigars with too much moisture will be hard to keep on and they'll also be hard to draw or smoke for those of you just getting started with cigars. The opposite problem is a cigar that is too dry. A cigar that is too dry will usually burn too hot and this will greatly affect the taste of your cigar. Cigars have subtle flavors and tones and you won't be able to taste them if your cigars are too dry because the high temperature of your burning cigar. If you are looking to get the full flavor from your cigars then it's important to store them properly between the time you buy them and the time you smoke them and that's where cigar wooden boxes come into play.
Good wooden cigar boxes can be expensive so it's important to look at a few when choosing your wooden cigar box. A good wooden cigar box will not only maintain your finest cigars in perfect smoking conditions but it will also look awesome wherever you place it in your home.
When selecting a good wooden cigar box it's important to choose one that has at least 5/8" wall thickness. More is better but 5/8" is fine. the wall thickness is important because it's the walls that separate your precious cigars from the climate outside your wooden cigar box. This becomes even more important if you live in an area with low humidity.
The wood that is used to make a a wooden cigar box is very important. A fine cigar box will be made of mahogany and lined with Spanish cedar wood. Spanish cedar is great for wooden cigar boxes because it is absorbent, it helps prevent beetle infestations and it also gives your cigars a spicy flavor as they age inside your wooden cigar box.
When choosing your wooden cigar box it's important to note the construction of the humidor. You are looking for a wooden cigar box where the high quality workmanship is evident throughout. Look for a wooden cigar box that has a good tight seal at the lid, has good, strong corner joints and that the hinges allow for the lid to seal the box completely and prevent any of the outside environment to get inside. Also make sure that there is sufficient room at the top of your wooden cigar box to allow for your humidifier. You don't want to waste any of the precious space inside your wooden cigar box.
Not necessary but a very nice feature of most cigar boxes are lift-out trays particularly if they are made of Spanish cedar.
